In short: Multan and much of south Punjab are supplied by MEPCO. Net billing applications go through the PITC Net Billing Portal (nmp.pitc.com.pk) with MEPCO selected. Unlike most other companies, MEPCO consumers are not sent to the ENC website for load extension. The portal directs them to the MEPCO Smart App, the PowerSmart App and eOps, or to their nearest customer facilitation centre.
A south-facing 10 kW system in Multan produces about 45 units a day, around 16,500 units a year, with strong output even in winter. Net billing for a 10 kW system with Solar Net Metering costs Rs 200,000 for MEPCO consumers.
Last updated: 21 September 2026. Based on the PITC Net Billing Portal, the ENC portal notice, the NEPRA (Prosumer) Regulations 2026 and PVGIS solar data. Sources are listed at the end.
Solar production in Multan
These are PVGIS long-term averages for Multan. The settings were a 10 kW system facing south at a 20-degree tilt, with 14% system losses.
| Month | Units per day (10 kW) | Month | Units per day (10 kW) |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | 42 | July | 42 |
| February | 46 | August | 42 |
| March | 49 | September | 44 |
| April | 51 | October | 46 |
| May | 50 | November | 43 |
| June | 47 | December | 41 |
Multan’s output is one of the most even through the year of the cities we compared. January still gives about 42 units a day, well above Islamabad (about 36) and Lahore (about 37). Over a year, a 10 kW system produces about 16,500 units, about 5% more than in Lahore. That is more than Faisalabad, and a little less than Sukkur further south.
How to apply with MEPCO
- Check your connection. Net billing needs a three-phase connection and a sanctioned load of at least 5 kW. The solar system cannot exceed your sanctioned load.
- Change or extend your load through MEPCO’s own channels. The ENC portal’s notice tells all MEPCO users to use the MEPCO Smart App or PowerSmart App and eOps, or visit the nearest customer facilitation centre. The PITC portal gives the same direction.
- Check transformer capacity with the “Check Transformer Overloading” button on nmp.pitc.com.pk. Solar on a transformer may not exceed 80% of its rating.
- Apply for net billing on nmp.pitc.com.pk, as a consumer or through your installer, with MEPCO selected.
- Agreement, demand notice and meter. MEPCO reviews the case, signs the agreement and issues the estimate for interconnection and metering. After payment it installs the bidirectional meter. Systems up to 25 kW no longer need NEPRA’s concurrence (S.R.O. 1320(I)/2026); larger systems still need it before billing starts.
To check your MEPCO net billing application status, use “Search Application” on the portal with MEPCO selected, and your tracking ID, CNIC or reference number. Deadlines for each stage are in our complete guide to net billing in Pakistan.
Solar in Multan’s heat and dust
- Heat reduces panel efficiency. Solar panels produce less as they get hotter, and Multan’s summers are among the hottest in Punjab. Mounting structures that leave an air gap under the panels help them stay cooler.
- Dust builds up fast. Dry, dusty air coats panels quickly. Clean them early in the morning with plain water and a soft brush. See our solar panel cleaning guide.
- Heavy daytime cooling suits solar. Summer AC use peaks when panels produce the most, so more of your solar is used directly. That is where net billing gives the best value.
- Agricultural users: the NEPRA regulations include agricultural consumers among eligible applicants, as long as they meet the connection and load requirements.
Reading a MEPCO net billing bill
Your bill lists imported and exported units separately. Imports are billed at your MEPCO tariff, and exports are credited at the national average energy purchase price, reported at roughly Rs 8 to Rs 11 per unit when the rules started. Solar units you use at home never reach the meter, so they do not appear on the bill. Our net metering bill explainer walks through a full example; the calculation is the same for MEPCO.
